Does your child need orthodontic care? Perhaps you’ve thought about seeing our Boerne orthodontist to straighten your own smile. Have you ever considered taking advantage of your FSA benefits to help pay for orthodontic treatment? With the end of the year creeping up on us, now is the time to use your remaining FSA benefits before anything expires.

How Does FSA Work?

Your FSA or Flexible Spending Account is basically a savings account that you get through your employer. Before the start of the year, you decide how much of your pre-taxed income you want to place in your FSA and a portion of this total will be deducted from each of your paychecks throughout the year. Oftentimes employers will contribute some to the account as well.

Flexible spending accounts are meant to be used strictly toward your healthcare expenses throughout the year. Doctor’s visits, prescriptions, eyeglasses, and even braces qualify for FSA.

The money in your FSA account must be used up before the end of the year and it typically doesn’t roll over unless your employer chooses to give you a grace period.

How To Use FSA At An Orthodontist’s Office

If you have money in your FSA that you need to use up before the year ends, be sure to let our orthodontic treatment coordinators know. Some of your spending options include:

Straightening Your Teeth

Flexible spending allows you to get braces for your teen or even clear aligner therapy for yourself.

Fix Your Bite

Perhaps everyone in your family is happy with the appearance of their teeth. But orthodontics is about more than just how things look.  The way you bite your teeth together has a lot to do with how they function. An improper bite can cause teeth to wear and break.  Also, jaw pain is common in people whose bite is off. Our Boerne orthodontist can check your bite to let you know if you could benefit from braces or another type of orthodontic treatment.

Orthodontics For Children

Some children with severe bite issues will actually need to get braces more than once in their life.  So even if you don’t have a teenager, it’s a good idea to get your younger child looked at to see what track their smile is on.

Retainers

Has someone in the family already had braces?  Are they wearing their retainer?  We can make you a fresh one or an extra to have on hand as a backup.

Even if you have dental insurance that covers orthodontic treatment, FSA can accompany your benefits.  You can use your flexible spending account to cover your co-pay or any portion that your dental insurance doesn’t cover.
